Boehm Pond Trail
West Shelton (Booth
Hill/Mohegan area)
loop & pond spur about
1 mile round trip
Access:
Limited parking opposite #98 Farmill Street (not Mill Street).
Note that Winthrop Woods Road shown on the map is a new street and does
not yet appear on some online maps.
In 2008 an older network of neighborhood trails near Isinglass
Reservoir was made official with white and yellow blazes (see map at
right). Near Farmill Street you will need to keep a close eye on the blazes to avoid
turning onto one of the unmarked trails.
The loop along Farmill Street is blazed white, while the Boehm Pond
spur is yellow. The trail is mostly very easy, but there is a stream crossing that
requires stone-stepping. There are also some moderate hills.
The Farmill Street loop passes through classic dry acidic oak-beech
hilltop forest, with a notable huckleberry understory to the south.
The Boehm Pond spur drops down into lowland with birch, maple, and white
pine.
